A New Book on a New Plan. The Winston Dictionary has been made to embody two fundamentally new policies-simplicity and clearness of definition, and practical facility of use. One would suppose, indeed, that these two obvious policies would be followed in any dictionary; yet the art and practice of dictionary making have been too deeply incrusted with tradition to keep abreast of the times. Actual use of the dictionaries available reveals many definitions harder to understand than the words defined; and, to increase the difficulty, dictionary makers have usually failed to take advantage of the typо-graphical and editorial devices which make for easy and convenient use.
